I love the amount of concentration she puts into her masterpieces. I'm running out of room because these days I'm just about in love with every piece of work she creates.
My mom sent me this recipe ages ago. Here it is for you in case you'd like to share it with your little ones. It was my first time making home made paints. It was easy and fun though, so we'll most likely do it gain for future arts & crafts days.
Martha Stewart’s Homemade Watercolor Paints
What You Need:
- 4 Tbsp. baking soda
- 2 Tbsp. white vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. light corn syrup
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- mixing spoon and bowl
- 1/2 dozen egg carton
- food coloring
- popsicle sticks or skewers
What To Do:
Mix together baking soda and vinegar. You will see it fizzing.
After the fizzing stops, add corn syrup and cornstarch. Mix well.
Pour this into your egg carton, but only fill the cups 1/3 to 1/2 of the way.
Add between 5 and 10 drops of food coloring to get the color you are looking for. Here are some tips for making certain colors of watercolor paints (this should remind you of elementary school a bit!)
Red / Pink – 10 drop red
Orange – 1 drop red, 6 drops yellow
Yellow – 5 drops yellow
Leaf Green – 3 drops green, 7 drops yellow
Sea Blue – 5 drops blue
Violet – 4 drops red, 2 drops blue
Let the paints sit overnight so that they can set and become firm.
Paint away with a wet paintbrush and your new homemade watercolor paints!
